Community Mentor

About the role

Community Mentor
Minimum 2 hrs per fortnight.

We are looking for volunteers from different areas of the community who may be interested in offering a minimum of two hours per a week to become a reliable positive figure in a young person's life.

The volunteer role will be part of 1625 Independent People’s Community Mentor Programme. The programme provides the opportunity for young people to build positive relationships with members of the community who they might otherwise never have had the chance to meet.

Our Community Mentors are matched with young people to provide 1-2-1 mentoring on a weekly basis with the aim to increase confidence and empower young people to make positive choices.

You need to be willing to take time out to meet with a young person each week and have a desire to help change a vulnerable young person's life for the better. Perhaps you have experience in life that will inspire or would like a positive experience in your own life?

Commitment

You must be willing to commit to at least two hours every fortnight for six months. This is crucial as relationships take time to develop.

The application form helps us to gather information about you and helps us to make good matches with young people. If you have any queries about the process or the scheme before deciding to fill in the form, please don't hesitate to contact Michael Johns, our Volunteer Coordinator, on 0117 317 8800 or volunteering@1625ip.co.uk.

All Mentors are screened and will need to commit to 12 hours of training which can be spread over either four evenings (to allow for people who work full time) or you can do it over two days.

To support you after the training you will need to take part in Reflective practice Sessions with other Mentors either monthly or every six weeks. This is to make sure all our mentors are continually learning, sharing and supporting each other.
